We did a vote on the Snowbird
website for a possible 2009 Schedule change. We gave the racers a
chance to vote!
The majority voted to stay the same for this year. Last year seemed to
be the smoothest
of all schedules and it appears many have already scheduled their travel
plans based on the assumption it would be kept the same.

SCHEDULE
NOTES:
Check-In:
Check-in will begin Monday evening in the
registration area, in the
back part of the conference center. You can also check-in Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday. This is where you can purchase your handout items,
pick up your free stuff, get traction compound, buy shirts, etc.
Pit Setup Times / Reserved Pitting:
Manufacture row setups and reserved indoor pitting will begin around check-in. We will announce
the times as we get closer. More than likely, these will be begin Monday
evening again. If you are interested in paying for a reserved
indoor pit spot in the pitting area, please
email us. Price has not yet
been determined (should be around 25 bucks). Hotel has renovated this room
with new A/C's (last year it got a little warm)!
Practice Information: Tuesday:
There will be open practice, and timed-controlled class
practice sessions. Wednesday:
There will be open practice, timed-controlled class practice sessions, AND a practice by your heat
race. Thursday-Sunday:
There will be open practice before qualifying/mains begin. This helps groove
the track for racing before the races begin. We will have some open
practice after oval qualifying for oval cars this year! Practice Notes: You must practice with the rules of your
class: 17.5 motors in 17.5 practice, 12th scales in 12th practice, etc.
We need everyone's help and cooperation. Open and Controlled practice will
have racers waiting in line. You can not 'cut' in front of the line.
We will have a voltage meter in tech to test your packs in practice (must be
8.44v and under for racing). Exact times will be available at the race. Open Practice:
This is for when time is limited, and allows
racers a chance to get on the track and turn some laps. These
are short 1 minute runs and 10 cars at a time hit the track (they are not
separated by class). You can make a small change and run a few laps to
see how your car handles. Lots of cars can run in this time frame.
We will have open practice before the heats start each race day (this helps
groove the track). Timed-Controlled
Class Practices:
This is where we schedule
times for each class to practice in. Controlled practice is set with the
same class order as the racing order, to simulate similar track conditions and
schedules. Schedule is based
on number of entries per class. Stock practices with stock, etc. Some of these are cut short to still
allow more controlled practice with cars in the same class, rather than
having all different classes out at once. Practice by Heats on Wed:
Heat races are setup and practice is
controlled based on the heat lineup. Heat #1 is practice #1, heat #23 is
practice #23, etc. Racers run with the drivers in their heat race.
After each practice, drivers marshal the next practice race. There are 1
of these on Wednesday.
Qualifying
Notes: Qualifying is set up
random and heats are not stacked. We do stagger/Ifmar starts for
both oval & road heats. Each driver will be on their own race clock.
Racers must turn marshal each round. Slow cars must yield to faster cars
in qualifying. We take your best single qualifier to set the mains (and to
set the resorts). There are four qualifiers and one main event. The top
nine cars are locked into the A-main (because of the bump driver from the B).
Resorts:
We will have resorts.
Last year we did 3 resorts. For '09 we may go by the vote from the racers
(whether we do 2 or 3 resorts). A resort is a new heat line-up based on
the previous qualifying results. Faster cars end up qualifying together.
Snowbird 1st Timer Practice:
If you can not make practice Tue/Wed, we work on allowing you to jump ahead of the line for open practice on
Thursday. We did this the last couple years and it worked well.
You must let us know
before the race if you want to be included in this.
'BUMP N' RUN' and FUN Saturday:
Featuring
the New
THUNDER
600: We
did the bumps the past few years and it was a huge success. 100's of spectators lined
the track to watch the excitement. Here's how it works:
The top
nine drivers are locked into the
A-Main. Qualifiers 10th-19th will compete in the B-Main, which will be
run Saturday after the last heat race. (B-main roads after last road
race, B-main ovals after last oval race). Winners of the
B-mains will be able to advance
into the
A-mains, which are raced on Sunday. They will start in the 10th
starting spot. We also did bump-ups in
year
three of the 'birds!
10th qualifier gets the now famous 'BQ Screw' award, and we have a 'Bump N Run' award to the racer that bumps:
